Solar energy system costs will vary based on the specific project. The following factors help determine price: size of your solar system, system components, and project specific attributes. Solar energy system incentives, financing, and client capital all affect the net cost and return on investment.

Federal Tax Credit
- The Inflation Reduction Act passed by the federal government has INCREASED the Federal Tax Credit to 30%. The 2025 Federal Budget Bill will cause the solar tax credit to end on 12/31/2025! The credit applies to all costs incurred after any utility incentives are subtracted. Solar projects and Battery backup projects qualify.
- There is a 30% tax credit (no cap) for the costs of installing residential or commercial solar installations.
- Filers of Alternative Minimum Tax can claim solar tax credits.
- The 30% tax credit can be applied to projects on secondary residences.
- Off-grid systems qualify for the credit.

2025 Focus on Energy Cash Rewards
- Residential & Business Renewable Cash Rewards
- Focus on Energy Cash Rewards are available on a first come first serve basis.
- Most residential customers can receive a maximum reward of $300 per project.
- Residential customers residing in specific zip codes could receive additional rewards (up to $300.) A list of qualifying zip codes is available here.

Customers who purchase their electricity and/or natural gas from participating utilities are eligible for Focus on Energy services and incentives. You can find out which incentives you’re eligible for by using the Focus on Energy Trade Ally website or by calling Focus on Energy at 800-762-7077.

It is a statewide partnership that works with eligible Wisconsin residents and businesses to install cost-effective energy efficiency and renewable energy projects.
